saladdressing

As you already know, I am a salad fanatic and have shared a list of my favorite ingredients that can help make your salads not only nutritious, but yummy.

But today I want to share the real secret sauce to an awesome salad. It’s literally the sauce! Or rather, the dressing.

Salad dressings is my secret weapon for when I have guests over, or when I’m making the same salad, with the same ingredients, a few days in a row.

A set of great salad dressings can make the same salad taste different and new each time.

And I have a great set of 3 that are very different indeed, but have a couple of things in common — they’re easy to make and you can find the ingredients in your fridge.

Here we go!

1. All-time Favorite Vinaigrette

I saw this recipe on a site called A Family Feast and have been loving it since.

Why you should try this recipe:
1. It’s diet-friendly — only uses a teaspoon of sugar
2. Extra virgin olive oil is loaded with antioxidants, some of which have powerful health benefits.
3, It’s super yummy — mustard is a great ingredient to add to any recipe to enrich its flavor.

What You’ll Need:

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
4 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
½ teaspoon sea salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Minced parsley and/or snipped fresh chives to taste
½ cup extra virgin olive oil

What You’ll Need To Do:

1. In a tall cup (ideally the one that comes with an immersion blender), add in the mustard, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper and herbs to taste. Whisk with a fork to combine just slightly.
2. Add the olive oil and blend using the immersion blender until completely combined and thickened.
3. Adjust seasonings to taste.
4. Cover until ready to use.
**If you do not have an immersion blender, this can also be made by whisking all of the ingredients by hand until thickened.

2. Simple Yummy Yogurt Dressing

All Recipes, where I found this dressing recipe, is another one of my favorites.

Why you should try this recipe:
1. It is very easy to make (just blend the ingredients)
2. Greek yogurt is delicious! (And it’s full of benefits for your health.)
3. You can change the flavor of this dressing just changing the vegetables you put in the mix.

What You’ll Need:

1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cucumber, peeled and finely chopped
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper

What You’ll Need To Do:

1. In a blender, combine the yogurt, cucumber, lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper. Blend until smooth and refrigerate until chilled.
2. That’s it!

Tip: I switched out cucumber for dill and that was yummy too.

3. Mexico-Style Dressing

I love this recipe on those days I need an additional hit of flavor. Glad I found it on Epicurious.

Why you should try this recipe:
1. It’s rich in flavor — the mix of cilantro, garlic and jalapeño pepper is amazing and will make any salad stand out.
2. Garlic is good for your health and well-being.
3. Cilantro is an amazing herb which is very low in calories and no cholesterol.

What You’ll Need:

1/4 cup fresh lime juice
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp finely chopped fresh cilantro
1 garlic clove, peeled and minced
1 tsp chopped jalapeño pepper (use canned for less heat)

What You’ll Need To Do:

1. In separate bowl, mix dressing ingredients.
2. That’s it!
