I love starting my mornings with a good glass of lemon water. I have been doing it for years.

I would always start my day with a big glass of water – after sleeping for several hours, our bodies are somewhat dehydrated so I’d tank up first thing to kickstart the system.

I added lemon water to the mix some years ago simply because it added some flavour to what I was drinking.

But then I read about the benefits of drinking lemon water, especially first thing in the morning.

Because I had already realized how good I was feeling after starting on lemon water, finding the article made cementing this new habit a no-brainer.

So what’s the recipe?

Well, it is very simple. It consists of adding the juice of half a lemon in warm water. Try to avoid any sweetener (even raw sugar) – just drink plain water with lemon. If it is too bitter, try adding more water.

And it’s not just a breakfast drink.

I also drink hot lemon water just before I go to bed to bed as a substitute for my night tea.

After doing some research, it turned out that the body cleanses while at rest, so drinking the lemon water at night makes sense, as it supports our inherent ability to detox.

The more I learn about lemon water, the more I love about it and will continue to enjoy it. If you’re keen on starting too, I highly advise it but do note though, if you have digestion problems, speak to your doctor first. The acidity of the lemon juice could aggravate a chronic issue. Also, do not expect this to change your life and cure miracles. It’s just part of a bigger picture in going natural and keeping healthy.
