There is no such thing as coincidences.
I believe that we’re surrounded by messages from the universe all the time, we just have to pick up on the signs (and be open to them).
In that given moment, there’s a lesson to learn in what was presenting itself to us…. sometimes subtly, and sometimes not so subtly.
(And you reading this article now is also probably not a coincidence either and could involve a message you might need to hear.)
So here it goes.
A few weeks ago, as I was putting together our Power Words for the week for Authentic Woman, I was reminded of a quote which has been one of my favorites for a few years now.
“Everything you’ve ever wanted, is on the other side of fear.” George Addair
As I was putting the quote art together, I fondly thought about how this quote and message is one I share frequently in an induction talk I give at work to newbies.
The idea behind the quote is simple: to dream big, and don’t be afraid of what is/could be in the way of your dreams… don’t think too much about what could happen… the what ifs…
Just do it. Get to the other side of fear and dare to see what’s on the other side.
It might not be as bad as you think.
Don’t let any doubts get in your way of trying. All that doubt is just fear talking and fear, is just a lie. An illusion.
Just face that fear, cross/walk/leap over it, and on the other side could be all that you want. And when you get there, you will feel stronger. If you can feel fear and still attempt to conquer it anyway, then you have already succeeded in more than just a task, you have succeeded in a life test and challenge for courage.
And with that, you learn that you can do anything you set your heart to.
Just as I was reflecting on this quote and what it means to conquer fear and how getting over it could lead us to our dreams; our happier lives, I stumbled upon an impactful video speech by Jim Carrey that validated and drilled this reflection in for me – reminding me that there was probably a message around fear I might need to tap into and pick up on.
(After all, I was just days away from having my first child — to say I had some fear creeping up would be an understatement!)
Personally, I think Jim Carrey is awesome. For the last few years, he’s really started to get my attention.
He’s been saying a lot of deep, spiritual stuff that kinda gets right to your core.
His words have power, and he hits the nail of his descriptions and explanations so squarely on the head.
What he says at minute 1:18 in this video really stood out to me, and I thought it was a great message so many people (and of course, myself) probably need to hear about fear. He said:
“Your eyes are not viewers, they’re also projectors, that are running a second story over the picture we see in front of us all the time. Fear is writing that script.
“Now fear, is going to be a player in your life. But you get to decide how much. You can spend your whole life imagining ghosts, worrying about the pathway to the future, but all there will ever be, is what’s happening here. In the decisions we make in this moment, which are based on either love, or fear.
“So many people choose their path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect so we never dare to ask the universe for it. I’m saying, that you can ask the universe for it.
“Life doesn’t happen to you, it happens for you.”
Now everyone hears a different message at any given time, based on what they need to hear in that moment.
Clearly this passage on fear was what stood out to me, and that was my theme of the moment.
But it was a completely different message for the friend that posted the video on her Facebook page that led me to discover it in the first place.
And for you, it could be something else together.
But that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is indeed a powerful and inspiring 3-minute video you should watch right now. Fear or not. And that perhaps, stumbling upon this video was not a coincidence at all.
